Union Station Creating Buzz
Downtown Denver’s Union Station has some new tenants that are creating buzz around town. In an effort to build awareness about the bee world, Union Station as added four beehives on the building’s rooftop. The project is supported by the restaurants and coffee shops in Union Station, and the bees will be creating local honey for restaurants in the area. This will be the first year of harvest, and they hope to continue to grow awareness and produce even more honey next year. Learn more on Denver’s CBS website.
Allegiant Air Announces Flights from DIA to Montrose
Telluride skiers rejoice, Allegiant Air will be offering flights from Denver International Airport to Montrose, Colorado for only $44 one-way. Montrose, Colorado is the closest airport to Telluride, which is home to one of the top ski destinations in Colorado. Travelers can take advantage of this deal December 17- March 25th, and most the flights will take place on Wednesdays and Saturdays. That sure does beat the 6 hour drive from Denver! Severe Rain and Hail Storm Delays Rockies Game
Denver residents were a little shocked when a severe storm rolled through the city right around rush hour on Tuesday. That was the same day the Colorado Rockies faced the Blue Jay’s. Due to the severe weather and hail, the Rockies baseball game was delayed almost three hours. Sadly, the Rockies lost 14-9 after playing until 1:10am. The field was covered in hail and the stairways were flooded with water, watch the videos and view the photos on Fox31 Denver here.
Beaver Creek Wildfire
Despite the name, this wildfire is nowhere near the Beaver Creek Ski Resort, and is actually located near the Colorado and Wyoming state line, in Walden, Colorado. Unfortunately, the Beaver Creek wildfire is continuing to grow and has now burned 11,776 acres, and is only 5% contained. There are over 500 firefighters assisting with this wildfire, including firefighters from the Denver Fire Department. They are not expecting full containment until August 1st. Missy Franklin is Headed to the 2016 Summer Olympics
Local olympic athlete Missy Franklin is officially headed to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio to compete in the 200-meter freestyle race. It was a close call for Franklin, a five-time Olympic Medalist who did not perform well in the trials this past week, adding concerns if she would make the team. Franklin showed her strength and focus and finished second place in the 200-meter freestyle race. We are so excited for Missy Franklin to make another Summer Olympic appearance!
