Now that we have explored the world of electric cars and how EV Charging is the way of the future, it’s time to talk about the most important “green” metric, Carbon Footprint. We are going to investigate what a carbon footprint is, what factors determine a company’s carbon footprint, and ultimately how it can be reduced.

What is a “Carbon Footprint”?
A Carbon Footprint is “The total amount of greenhouse gases produced to directly and indirectly support human activities, usually expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide (CO2).” All human activity has a carbon footprint however, measures can be taken to reduce or eliminate it completely, resulting in a net-zero or even negative carbon footprint.
How can businesses reduce their Carbon Footprint?
We can do this one of two ways; one, reducing emissions at their source, and two, offsetting what pollution does occur by reducing the CO2 already in the atmosphere. The solution increases a business’s environmental sustainability broadly by ensuring that maintenance and upkeep does not produce more harmful pollutants. These measures include:
- Choosing eco-friendly lighting that uses less energy
- Choosing recycled building materials whose production requires fewer emissions.
The second method of carbon footprint reduction is slightly more controversial. Called Carbon Offsetting, this is a practice that doesn’t require the business to move to a model of sustainability as long as they can afford to financially support carbon reducing projects elsewhere. Most of the time a business will choose to do this over seas where they have lower environmental standards.
